A Councillor's Role

Councillors are elected to represent an individual geographical unit on the council, known as a ward or – mainly in smaller parishes – the entire parish or town council area. They are generally elected by the public every four years.

Register Of Interests

All members, co-opted members of district, and parish councils must complete a register of interests form to register their financial and other interests.

My wife has been deeply involved in the community. Until recently, she drove the Age Concern bus, prepared meals for elderly residents, and she continues to serve as President of the WI. My daughter works within the village, and my son is also employed locally. I served my Country in the Royal Navy for nearly 34 years as an Electronics Engineer, leaving the service in 2018. Afterward, I continued working in the local area (Rock) until a road traffic accident recently forced me into early retirement.

I have been an active member of the Parish Council on and off since 2012 and have developed a strong and detailed knowledge of local council business.

My children have thankfully enjoyed a similar upbringing. The early part of my career involved working away within industry, but the lure of Cornwall eventually got to me, and so, I returned and spent the majority of my career working in Local Government here in Cornwall up to my retirement in 2020. Football and golf are my sporting passions and although my footballing days are over, I play golf regularly as a member of Bowood Golf Club alongside many local friends.

I chose to join the Parish Council because the time is right to offer my support and help encourage others to get Tintagel back to where people feel it belongs. I hear comments suggesting the village has lost its direction and it’s sense of purpose and in my opinion the Parish Council can only do so much. It therefore needs the support and commitment of local people and businesses to drive village priorities with the aim of achieving successful outcomes. I really do hope that my input, effort, and those of others, can make a difference to Tintagel’s well-being and prosperity and call upon the whole community of Tintagel to support and do their bit.

I firmly believe that honest, open communication from the parish council is vital. I want to improve parish council communications, ensuring everyone’s voices are being listened to by the council and that they feel included in local decisions.

Tourism plays a key role in the parish’s prosperity and the visitor centre needs to reopen to help tourists get the most from their trips here. I am keen to engage with all businesses in the parish - those directly serving tourism and those that don’t - as when local businesses do well, our community benefits too.

We have 2 sons Thomas and Corey. I enjoy playing golf and watching sport and my wife enjoys riding her horse. We take a very active part in Rochelle's family's farm helping wherever we can. As someone who has lived nearly all my life in the village and raised a family here, all I want is for our village to thrive for the residents and businesses and for the visitors to have a great experience when they come here.

... I fell in love with all aspects that this village has to offer - the amazing coastline, the busy summers and quiet winters, but most of all was the local community, which I absolutely love. I met my wife here and have two amazing children (not young children anymore more!). I was a youth football coach when my son was growing up, and helped out with the local surf club as both my children attended. I’ve always tried to be an active member of the community, whether that’s involved the carnival or Christmas lights; anything to help really. I’m also on the Tintagel Sea Angling Club committee, which I’ve been a part of the since I was 16.

Having a chance to join a brand new parish council is something that I am very much looking forward to, as I hope to help and promote the beautiful village that is Tintagel.

of Lloyd’s Cricket Club and act as advisor to the Tintagel Cricket Club Committee. I feel extremely fortunate to be happily spending my retirement in Trevillett with my partner Jenny, whose family moved here nearly forty years ago. From experience of living, working and playing cricket overseas, I truly appreciate how lucky we are to live here. The strong local spirit, landscape and heritage make this such a special place. I am keen to serve the community with an open, honest, practical and respectful approach.

Having been involved with, and chairperson of many committees I understand the real importance of listening, collaboration, fairness, integrity and transparent communication. I am particularly passionate about creating greater opportunities for young people to take part in sport and with a strong aversion to seeing litter and waste in public spaces, I am keen to work with others to keep the Parish tidy.

I look forward to engaging with everyone and working together to making it a happier and more connected community.
